WELCOME TO THE BLOG OF
LAURA & RACHEL
FIND IT FAST
Washington DC at sunrise. A 7:00am start time, which means it’s 4:00am to us West coasters, with the wind chill made temperatures about 35 degrees. Rachel and I were layered in just enough to not get frost bite, soaking in every second we could of a real Fall morning. If you watched our Instagram stories, you saw us in awe of the East Coasts beauty, wearing tall boots and scarves, sampling every corner coffee shop, dancing through yellow tree lined streets, but most importantly, crunching on all the fallen leaves like we were 5. Washington DC was more stunning than we could have ever imagined!
As soon as our East Coast trip was official, we wrote a goal list and prioritized it. Yes, we’re those kind of people! We were once told, “Success occurs when your dreams get bigger than your excuses”, and we didn’t want to leave with regrets. You know the “I wish we would have…”, “If only we could have…” moments. We had three days and it was go big or go home!
Our adventure started in an adorable tiny Airbnb apartment right in the midst of downtown Washington DC. We awoke to the sounds of construction, commute traffic, and rain. Yes rain, you know that wet stuff that falls from the sky that us Californian’s never get to experience? It was perfect! (Well is was perfect if you asked Rachel and I, Paul on the other hand had another word for it other than perfect.) We grabbed the one tiny umbrella we had between the three of us, Googled the closest coffee shop, and walked in the rain. Not too far away was this adorable historic brick building, the front lined with tables and chairs obviously for sunny day use, the aroma of roasting coffee beans filling the air, and packed with locals. This would be the place we would escape to edit, or meet up with the girls, if we called Washington DC home.
Our first day in DC we played tourists. We walked the stairs of the Lincoln Memorial (where I got my picture alongside Abe), saw the Washington Monument, paid our respects at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, waved to Obama while passing The White House, witnessed sight of The Constitution and Bill of Rights, at The National Archives, and spent our final hours of daylight at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Things we saw that day will be etched into our memories forever.
As night fell we headed to a waterfront dinner, and enjoyed the beautiful views of the Potomac River with the reflection of the city lights twinkling in the ripples. We decided to walk and window shop the streets of Georgetown before Ubering home. We had one last thing to check off our list of epic day adventures… The Escape Room! If you haven’t ever tried one, you just MUST! It’s definitely something we will be doing again soon!
We couldn’t have imaged a more wonderful time in Washington DC, but we still had one more thing to accomplish on our dream list, and we saved the best for last! Our wonderful friends Matt & Abby met us for an early morning sunrise session along the gardens of the Washington National Cathedral. We had envisioned a session like this for so long, it was just a dream seeing it unravel right in front of our very eyes! We kept it short and sweet since it was near 30 degrees, and Abby was wearing an adorable tulle skirt that we knew wasn’t the warmest, and headed to breakfast at an old fashion dinner, where we warmed up with lots and lots of coffee.
Matt & Abby, we can’t thank you enough for braving the elements to help us achieve a dream from our ever growing to-do list. You guys are truly special friends in our lives, and we can’t wait until you visit us here on the West Coast!
Celebrate love. Celebrate life.
