WELCOME TO THE BLOG OF
LAURA & RACHEL
FIND IT FAST
Each and every year, Rachel and I sit down and physically write out our dreams and goals for the following year. Goals are things we will accomplish in life and business, with devoted time, energy, and will power. Dreams are different, and we’re talking big dreams. Like last year we had dreamed of one day speaking at a conference, and if you know our fear of public speaking, you know this is a BIG dream. Asking ourselves, why would we dream of doing this if it terrifies us? Because it helps us grow and develop into the leaders and educators we long to be. While doing this, we look back on the previous years list to see how many we accomplished that we can cross off. And believe me, I love crossing things off a list!
This year I have to say wasn’t easy. Loosing my job in February rocked the boat a bit, but helped catapult us into the direction we’re going, and build some serious momentum we’re eager to keep going! Instead of doing the typical behind the scenes post we normally do in the beginning of each year, this year we’re doing a recap of some of our very proud accomplishments. If 2017 is just a minuscule piece of what 2016 was like, we better hold onto our seats, it’s going to be an amazing ride!
Here’s to 2017 and dreaming big together!
January | Oh my goodness! Rachel got engaged!
February | This month was an emotional roller coaster! I left the security of the corporate world and took our photography business full time. H-U-G-E goal accomplished!
There’s nothing like the rush of shooting our first destination wedding on the other side of the country! Florida was absolutely gorgeous and we cannot wait to go back! Then Rachel found her dream wedding dress, and without hesitation (not even having a venue yet), bought her dress!
For the second time in the same month, we were back to the East Coast for the Rising Tide Leadership retreat in Charleston! If that wasn’t enough, Rachel was able to ask Natalie to be her bridesmaid and Amy & Jordan to be their wedding photographers, and they were all totally surprised!!!
March | Rain rain go away, come again another day. This month was our first rainy day wedding. California doesn’t get much rain, but we arrived super prepared and it ended up being just beautiful!
We kicked off TideWalks! Twice a month, our TuesdaysTogether group get out from behind the screen and walks. This has been an perfect way for us all to get to know each other more than just our businesses, and get healthy at the same time!
We shot at the Giant’s stadium in San Francisco! We hadn’t had this on our dream list, but boy we should have! Also this is our groom that works at Facebook and gave us the complete tour of what we call Facebook Land.
April | This month means taxes. Like real business, act like an adult, taxes. This was our first official year where our hobby had exploded into a business quicker than we could have ever imagined, and Uncle Sam wanted a piece of the pie. A very very big piece of our pie.
We headed back to Las Vegas for WPPI and did a clothing styled shoot in the desert with a sorority from UNLV. With this shoot we fell in LOVE with the desert!
Shot a Hayley Paige bridal shoot at the gorgeous Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay. Now this venue is on the top of our list locally to shoot a wedding at in 2017!
May | Rachel and Paul choose their wedding venue! People could now ask her when her wedding was and she had a response! Now all the official planning could begin. (Excuse the iPhone photo!)
Locally our mentoring sessions had taken off, but in May we were honored to be flown all the way to Connecticut! We spent an entire day talking everything we know about business, and ended the day with teaching a posing course along the steps of the Hartford State Capital.
June | We headed up to Stanford University for our very first ballerina shoot! This is something Rachel has had on our goal list for quite some time, and it was just as amazing as we thought it would be. Fine art dancing along the steps of the library, a flowy Hayley Paige gown among the art center, and a tutu at sunset in the fountains.
We lead a styled collaboration shoot for our local TuesdaysTogether group in support of Community Over Competition. With 13 models, a oceanfront venue, and a team of creatives, this was a day we will never forget! Estrella Films created a a video to speak on the heart of our group. If you haven’t seen it, it’s a MUST watch! The Rising Tide Society even added it to their websites details page!
July | Summer is here, and what a better way to jump start it than with a family camping trip! We spent a week rafting in the Big Sur river and it made me realize how much I loved camping as a kid. This will definitely be a staple we do every summer!
Talk about one of the BIGGEST goals on our list… to host a workshop! In July we launched our first work dates and are so honored to say we sold out! The workshop actually takes place in just a few short weeks so stay turned for what’s to come!
It was our TuesdaysTogether’s group one year birthday!!! We celebrated with a potluck dessert bar and Rachel and I were surprised as we saw everyone rolling in a TV. As the video began to play, the tears started to flow. Our group had made us a thank you video (which we added below). Heart spoken words of gratitude, thankfulness, and appreciation, plus a gift to a spa day. There aren’t words to express how much we love this group.
August | Back to the airport we go, Dallas bound for The Inspired Story conference AS SPEAKERS! What!?!?! You heard right! This wasn’t just a goal, but a DREAM to one day share our hearts in front of an audience and we did it! The first day we shared on “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”, (and yes we had the song playing as attendees entered the room with big yellow smiley face sitting at everyone’s seat). That afternoon, in 104 degree heat we may ad (summers in Texas are no joke!), we lead a wedding couples posing course. We’ll admit this was our FAVORITE part of the conference! The second day we spoke on collaboration, and how to bring Community Over Competition to life in your local area.
LA Baby! Once we got home from Dallas, we were off to Los Angeles for the LA Bridal Market. Totally out of our norm, along side Christine, owner of Epiphany Bridal Boutique, we helped choose the designers and dresses her shop would carry in 2017. Hello fun shopping day! While we were there we watched runway shows, even pulled a model aside for a styled shoot of our own in The Knot’s booth. So much fun! Plus, we were invited to go back next year!
September | Now you first met Amara at Rachel’s proposal, but we finally took her out for photos of her own! She’s officially our mascot. Isn’t she just adorable?!
It’s official, the Save the Dates were mailed! These custom deigned cards by Miss Design Berry added the perfect touch to both Paul and Rachel’s personalities. We can hardly believe the wedding is only a few months away!
5 Days. That’s all we had to plan a runway show, plus neither of us had any idea how to put an event like this together. Our lives took a complete pause for a few days as the preparation began. 5 Days. That’s it, and this came to life… (you just HAVE to watch the video!)
October | Seven Weddings. Three Proposals. Three Seniors. Need I to say more?! October was the quickest and slowest month of our lives, all wrapped into one. I must say though, we were prepared and handled it like a boss!
Luke’s Diner came to us! If you follow us, we like to believe we’re the living breathing Gilmore Girls. With the premiere of the new Gilmore Girls coming out, Luke’s diner’s appeared in random cities all across the county, and we were close to one of them, so of course we went!
November | Arizona in the summer, no thank you, but in the winter, its perfect! We packed our bags, and with a group of friends, headed to UNITED! What a fun time to reconnect with friends, make a ton of new ones, all while learning how to better our business and our selves!
For the first time in years, a lot of family was in town celebrating my granny’s 93rd birthday. Just out of conversation, questions arouse about our family history like where we came from, and who were our ancestors. That ignited a spark in us, and we just had to find out more. We spent hours, probably even days if you put all the time together, into creating our family tree. We were able to go back as far as Rachel’s 7 x great-grandfathers in England and Ireland! We even found a great uncle was the father of Charles Curtis, the Vice President to Hoover! How cool is that!!! These are just a few of our long lost family members.
Well, hello Abe! We are so envious of you east coasters that that get to experience a rich history. For us Californian’s, history is hardly over a hundred years old. In November were flew to Washington D.C. and walked the Lincoln Memorial, caught a glimpse of the White House, and read the actual United Stated Constitution original. Holy cow! It was pretty amazing!
With our new brand launch coming in December, with the help of Estrella Films, created our first promo video! We are beyond excited for the way it turned out, check it out!
December | While on the east coast, November turned into December, and it was Rachel and Paul’s turn in front of the camera! We met their wedding photographers, Amy & Jordan, in Annapolis for a historic sunset engagement session Rachel had always dreamed of!
We got to shoot a little ourselves while traveling and were ecstatic to get our good friends Abby & Matt in front of our lenses. This cathedral lies right in the middle of a residential area just outside D.C. Really California? You seriously need to step up your game!
3 years. That’s how long it had been since our last family portrait. We have to admit, as photographers, we don’t get in front of the camera nearly as much as we should. Three years ago, Charlie was about a head shorter than Rachel, now look, they’re nearly the exact same size! Plus, we finally had Paul in family photo. My world, right here in one photos. Thank you Rachel Zee!
We launched our new brand! After years of dreaming and months of preparation, the brand new Laura & Rachel was revealed thanks to the awesome work of Davey & Krista!
Once client Christmas gifts were mailed, and we had finally found a CPA to start outsourcing our taxes, it was time for year end hurrah! We were again LA bound for our final wedding of the year, yeah 2 days after Christmas, but this trip was special. It was just us girls, Rachel, Charlie, and myself. It was the first wedding Charlie assisted with, and then we spent another two days just exploring the city, admiring the views of the Santa Monica pier, and hanging out poolside. This is a glimpse as the sunset on our last wedding of 2016. What a perfect way to end the new year!
Happy New Year Friends!
Together let’s make this the BEST year EVER!
