Spending a week with a best friend, in a state you’ve never explored, eating at all the local hangouts, isn’t what we consider “work.” Last year a seed was planted in our hearts. We weren’t ready to acknowledge it, and just let it muster. A few months ago it came up again, week after week, we were getting requests to mentor, but we kept brushing them to the side. They must be talking about someone else. Us? Really? What on earth did we have to offer? If you know anything about us, we’re not spontaneous. Seriously, we make plans for our plans. Completely opposite that our bestie Spanki Mills, who lives in the moment, and just goes with the flow. We met Spanki over four years ago, when we invited her to California and hosted a workshop, and have been inseparable ever since. Talk about having a cheerleader in your corner! She is such the encourager, someone you can bounce crazy audacious dreams off of, and know she won’t think you’re out of your mind. Everyone needs a little Spanki in their lives.
Spanki knew our hearts, and believed in our potential. She also knew we could plan an event like no ones business! I’m pretty sure Rachel and I were event coordinators in a past life. Put us together with Paul (Rachel’s fiance), who knows a little about everything, we’re a force to be recon with! Spanki was hosting a photography workshop, knew our hearts for teaching, and asked us to join her. A week in Texas, learning from start to finish what it took to run the behind the scenes of a workshop. She allowed us to speak on the power of social media and website must-have’s to attract your ideal client. We weren’t even nervous and loved the small group feel! We were speaking from our hearts and realized we could have talked for days! Our fear of running out of things to say, quickly surpassed. This is EXACTLY what we needed to gain the courage to take the next step in teaching! Spanki we can’t thank you enough!
We arrived in Texas to this adorable Airbnb house! With shutters, and huge front yard trees, it defiantly had the southern feel. We prepped, shopped, assembled swag, cooked meals (Paul did all the cooking), and waited for our special attendees to arrive. Here’s a peek into our Austin adventures…

Here we go… Let the journey begin!
Spanki welcoming everyone, sharing her heart, and what she hoped everyone would get out of this amazing weekend.
Mornings did begin poolside with mimosas.
I realized quickly I make horrible faces while speaking.
OMGoodness Laura, take a break and smile every once in awhile. Bahaha!
Voodoo Donuts is a must have in Austin! The most crazy flavors we’ve ever seen of donuts!
Spanki loves succulents and wanted to gift each of the attendees a potted plant they could take home and watch flourish as their businesses did. That’s right, we hand planted 10 cactus’s… OUCH!
I’m not sure what exactly was going on here, but I’m obviously blaming Rachel for something.
Day two was spent all outdoors, walking the streets of Austin, prepping for the afternoon senior model shoot. Who could pass up this adorable “I love you” wall!
We found a Tom’s store and nearly everyone indulged in a pair of boots.
Rachel rockin’ it behind the scenes!
Paul, there aren’t enough words to tell you how thankful we are you were there with us.
Seriously, we couldn’t have done it without you!
And of course, after extremely late nights, and hardly any sleep, we woke up to capture sunrise sessions of these two love birds. Rooftop along the cityscape of Austin, and Texas University. More to come of those!
We did it! A 3-day workshop in the books!
These amazing ladies who came together from all across the country to make this all possible. Love you guys!
One thing we learned on this trip is we LOVE coordinating events. If you’re putting together a workshop or event, and would like us to come and run the behind the scenes, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and let’s chat!
