It never rains in California, right? Please, we’ve been in a drought for nearly 10 years! When planning a Big Sur proposal, all you can think of is the vast open views, and delicious golden sunsets. We should have known better, like with this proposal from a few months ago. We watched our weather app like a hawk. There was only a 10% chance of rain and we were still a week away. Then 30%, then 50%, and the day before it was a 100%. We needed to prep for rain! We had this amazing beach picnic for Mike to surprise Vanessa with once he proposed. That wasn’t going to be the best idea in the rain! So, that’s why we always have a Plan B.
We had arranged a covered patio space from an oceanfront restaurant, that way he could propose and still stay dry. We arrived over an hour early, the rain was coming down so hard, they had to close the patio completely. In sheer panic, we had to come up with Plan C, the entire thing would need to take place inside, or would it? A Big Sur proposal is no joke!
Thank goodness we were able to text with Mike the morning of. Being from Boston, he was used to some rain. We told him of our new plan and he loved it! We had a cozy oceanfront table for two, right next to the cracking fireplace, with champagne chilling. The rain became a light drizzle, and for a few moments, nothing at all. Perfect timing! Mike was pulling in the driveway, and we stood in the distance as any average tourist would, taking pictures of the gorgeous view. Inside I still always feel like I’m being obvious, even though I know we’re not!
Mike took Vanessa’s hand, and led her down the rocky trail towards the ocean. It was time! In my head, I could hear him telling her how much he loved her, just by the look in his eyes. For that brief moment, the wind died down, the ocean became calm, and Vanessa’s face illuminated. She looked down at her hand, and all we could hear it “It is PERFECT!”. Once Mike pointed us out, Vanessa waved as she wiped tears. We captured a few portraits before leading her inside. We had this great “view” to show her. There awaiting her was champagne ready to toast, a gorgeous bouquet from Floral Design by Reina, and a slice of Rocky Road Ice Cream Pie. Y-U-M!!! Everything was perfect!
