A Folktale Winery Wedding. We were over 150 miles away, glued to the news, listening about the fire had just torn through Northern California’s beautiful Napa Valley. On what felt like a normal day, the sun rose with an unusual bright orange glow, beautiful yet heartbreaking. We knew this gorgeous sunrise was at the expense of the thousands who had just lost everything from these devastating fires.
There are two vineyard filled areas of California where the weather is perfect all year round and chateaus make for the most perfect wedding venues, Napa and Carmel Valley. It was a Thursday afternoon and we received an urgent request from one of our local wineries asking if we were available the next day to capture an elopement. Rick and Anne had traveled to Napa all the way from North Dakota, to share their vows between the vines of a Napa winery when the fire began. Flowers had been delivered, Ann had her hair and makeup already done, when the venue had no choice than to evacuate the entire property. In a mad dash they packed up all their belongs and headed out of town through a police guided emergency roads.
Wanting nothing more to still get married in a vineyard setting, they headed towards Carmel Valley. Working with Folktale Winery, and knowing we had less than 24 hours, florals and an officiant fell into place seamlessly. We arrived at Folktale Winery as the couple was was just putting on their finishing touches, both so thankful we were there to capture their special day with less than a day in advance notice. We couldn’t get over how calm and joyful they were after just being evacuated just an hour before their original ceremony a few days prior! It was absolutely meant to be.
The valley had a this soft subtle layer of what looked to be fog, but was actually low hanging smoke remnants of the northern fire. It illuminated the evenings sky turning everything in the valley to this stunning golden hue, nothing like we’ve had seen before! We used the chateau as our beautiful backdrop for romantic portraits and walked to the vineyards where they exchanged vows, just as the sun slipped behind the Santa Lucia mountains. Talk about the perfect ending! Congratulations Rick and Anne, your wedding day is definitely a day we will never forget!
Many thanks to this amazing creative team who brought this wedding together…
