Photography Ring Hack That Changed Our Life | Instagram vs Reality

We get asked all the time how we get the most amazing ring shots during an engagement session. We’re normally not in an ideal background location for flat lays, lighting is unpredictable, and on very limited time.

For starters, take ring shots while your couple is doing their outfit change. We have all our couples do at least one outfit change and two locations. As soon as we arrive at the second location, we borrow the ring and any other details from her outfits, jewelry and their boxes, cute shoes, possibly a shawl, and always flowers if they incorporate them in their session.

How’d we do it? We always buy white cars! Don’t laugh… we’re dead serious! You have no idea how many times we’ve been in a pickle without a white board or a clean surface. Our white vehicles have been our saving grace for ring shots. We even request white when we’re traveling and need a rental.

We just thought it would be fun showing you what really goes into a ring shot during a session and what you end up seeing in our feed. Instagram vs. Reality.

MEET LAURA & RACHEL

We are photographers, proposal planners, curators, and most of all, storytellers for your big life moments. We have worked in the wedding industry for over a decade, making one incredibly unique mother-daughter team and have documented weddings and proposals in destinations all around the world. Even though we've spent most of our lives in the nautical California town of Monterey, we now call South Carolina home, expanding to the low country of Charleston.
