A Charleston proposal. July in South Carolina. It’s hot, it’s humid, but the sunsets are unbelievable! Every corner you turn there’s a waterway leading to either a bridge or dock, that opens to the most magical of locations. It’s a photographers’ paradise! Just off the mainland, we took a side road that led down to the waters edge. Docks left open for visitors, which is unheard of in California. Everything isn’t fenced in or large neon signs everywhere. It’s just peaceful.

We sat on the edge of the dock, shoes off with our feet in the water to keep cool. Locals in their fishing boats coming in and out of the marina, they would do a friendly wave our way, as would we. Some had their dogs aboard, standing tall as if they were the ship’s captain. Next to us sat a picnic we had set up. A beautiful blanket, florals, and champagne on ice.  We were over 2,700 miles from home, just two California girls enjoying a low country evening, waiting for the arrival of a couple that is in for a surprise of their lives.

Proposals can be stressful, ensuring everything goes as planned, but there was something about this evening that was the most calm we had ever been. We heard a car pull off the main road and park in the gravel above, followed by footsteps down the metal bridge leading to the docks. Hand in hand they walked to the edge of the pier, conveniently right next to where we were sitting, admiring the colors of the amazing sunset. He held her close, pointing out fish they could see below. It was completely quiet at that moment besides the lapping of water and fish jumping.

They had traveled all the way from Atlanta to enjoy a weekend away. Dinner reservations were planned, there was just one more thing that needed to happen first. This. Down on one knee pledging his love, asking for her hand in marriage. All we could hear was her gasp, then giggle, and squeal before she jumped in his arms. He walked her to the next row of boats and there awaiting them was the picnic surprise. They popped champagne never letting go of each other. It couldn’t have been a more picture perfect moment! This was most definitely a Charleston proposal we will never forget!
