Engagement, Portraits, Proposal

A Historic Downtown Charleston Proposal | Matt and Marin met while attending UCLA. After graduation, Matt joined the Navy and was stationed in Charleston, while Marin stayed at home in California, knowing it was temporary. Both are racking up the airline miles flying back and forth to visit each other as much as possible.

Matt knew the time was right and we wanted nothing more than to put a ring on Marin’s hand, so he flew to California without her knowing to ask for her parents blessing. While there learning she was planning a surprise visit to come see him within the next few weeks and he knew the timing couldn’t be more perfect. Playing it off as a surprise, he let Marin truly believe he had no idea she was coming, the mean while her family was flying here as well to celebrate what was just about to happen!

It was a quiet morning and they were enjoying brunch downtown Charleston when they decided to take a walk around the battery district. Enjoying the magnificent views and historic homes, all while trying to stay dry as a stray rain shower passed by.

Surrounded by blooming camellias and large low hanging mossy oak trees, Matt took her hand and lead her down a secluded cobblestone alleyway. Little did she know, we were right there waiting. The moment had come and next thing we knew he was down on one knee and she couldn’t stop smiling! The biggest grin we had ever seen! Even once we started taking portraits, she would just stop and bend to her knees laughing thinking “Is this real life!?!?!”

We spent some time walking the surrounding areas of downtown Charleston taking portraits before we said our goodbyes. Marin’s next surprise was right down the street, as her entire family was waiting at a nearby restaurant to celebrate with them. Congratulations Matt & Marin! Your Downtown Charleston proposal was amazing and we cannot wait to hear more about wedding plans!
