A Magnolia Plantation Proposal | Directly from the pages of a Nicholas Sparks novel, literally. A portion of The Notebook was filmed right here in Charleston, Magnolia Plantation to be exact, is right where the Audobon Swamp Garden is, the setting of the scene where Noah rows Allie through a lake filled with swans. Where would be a more romantic place to propose!

Chris emailed us about wanting to propose to his sweet Kathleen, on a bridge where story tales were made of. It was in March, which meant the middle of azalea season, which if you’re not from the Charleston area, we have to tell you is the most beautiful month on the planet! If you’re anything like us, flowers are our love language. Spring in the Low Country you will find blooms on every corner, colorful petals cascading through the streets, and a sweet smell similar to honeysuckle in the air. Temperatures hover around 65, the humidity stays at bay, and the brief random afternoon showers keep everything clean and feeling alive. We moved to Charleston for March, hands down.

Days before the proposal we walked the entire property, from the historic buildings, walked below the ancient mossy oak trees, to the petting zoo where peacocks roam free. Then out of no where, we turned a corner, and there she was. The dream-like long white bridge that stretched from bank to bank. Right in the middle of that bridge, in just a few short days, is where Chris would propose to Kathleen. We’re getting goose bumps just reminiscing on it!

The day had finally arrived. We are always super excited, yet super nervous, all wrapped into one. The details are always spelled out in precision, but there’s always the “what if” that haunts us. We were in position, sitting on a park bench looking like your typical garden sightseer, even though we felt like neon signs were above our heads saying “these are the photographers about to capture your proposal!” We can get a little worked up inside, but you would never know. The time had come. We saw Chris and Kathleen strolling the length of the bridge, pointing out birds, and admiring the uniqueness of their surroundings. Next thing we knew, Chris was down on one knee. All the planning, all the anticipation, all the nerves, we’re gone. The moment was happening and we were living the story. A real life love story right in front of our every own eyes. This just proves that a Magnolia Plantation proposal is absolutely perfect in every way!
